Young Authors Celebration

It is with a great deal of pride in our students that we extend an invitation to our annual Young Author’s Celebration, scheduled for the week of February 9, 2015.  This week long “celebration” will provide our students the opportunity to read their books and publications to members of their families, school, district, senior citizen groups, and the larger community.  We would be honored to have you join us as part of this “special audience!”

The Young Author’s Celebration is our way of acknowledging the hard work and determination that our 411 students have put forth in creating a piece of history, a book!  Throughout the week, we are planning a variety of activities to commemorate this special occasion by providing the students with several forums to proudly share their stories with a variety of audiences.

While we acknowledge your busy schedules, it is our hope that you will be able to join your child’s class during their scheduled time.  Our students would treasure the opportunity to share their books with you!

Cyberbullying Session – November 6 at Link

The dangers of cyberbullying — bullying through the use of electronic devices such as cell phones, computers, video gaming systems, and the internet — continue to escalate as technology use increases.  In fact, it is now estimated that as many as forty percent of children and teenagers between the ages of 10 and 16 will be the victims of cyberbullying this year.  In an effort to address this issue and offer ready-to-use strategies to protect your children, we are excited to invite you to meet with Officer Mark Robinson and Detective Charles Owens from the Clarkstown Police Department. Officer Robinson and Detective Owens will be here at Link in the Library, on November 6th at 6:30 pm.  This presentation will provide you with the information you need to protect your children from the very real and very devastating effects of cyberbullying.  We expect the meeting and discussion to last approximately one hour and we hope that you can attend.

PTA Cupcake Bakeoff – April 5

The District-wide PTA Bakeoff will take place at the Clarkstown Education Foundation’s Food Fest on Saturday, April 5.  The event begins at 6pm in the Festa B&W cafeteria.  This year, PTA Council is hosting a CUPCAKE BAKEOFF.  The contest categories are Most Creative Cupcake, Best School Spirit Cupcake, and Best Student Entry.  All entries should be delivered between 5pm and 6pm and the judging will take place at 7pm.

We also have a new prize category this year – the school with the most entries (batches of cupcakes) will win a gift card for their PTA.  So, start planning your creative masterpieces and let your kids know that they will get to bake with you this week!!  The more batches, the better!  If you are planning to submit entries, please email Jessica Rich at [email protected].
